The Oconee River Land Trust (ORLT) is a private, non-profit land conservation organization. Formed in 1993, initially to aid the effort to create a greenway along the Oconee River in Athens, the mission of ORLT is to conserve natural lands to protect water quality, preserve wildlife habitat, and enhance the quality of our lives and those of future generations.
We are committed to preserving many different types of land including forests, river and stream corridors, wetlands, wildlife habitat, productive farms and timberland, historic sites and scenic views. To date, we own one property, and hold eighteen conservation easements in seven North East Georgia counties, protecting 1,368 acres of our natural landscape.
